What are the important issues?

Basic issues

The basic issue for the study is the behavior of gauges in a particular environment with respect to:

• Repeatability
• Reproducibility
• Stability
• Bias

Strategy

The strategy is to conduct and analyze a study that examines the behavior of similar gauges to see if:

• They exhibit different levels of precision;
• Instruments in the same environment produce equivalent results;
• Operators in the same environment produce equivalent results;
• Responses of individual gauges are affected by configuration or geometry changes or changes in setup procedures.

Other goals

Other goals are to:

• Test the resolution of instruments
• Test the gauges for linearity
• Estimate differences among gauges (bias)
• Estimate differences caused by geometries, configurations
• Estimate operator biases
• Incorporate the findings in an uncertainty budget
